Dr. Ronald M. Howell Jr. serves as Associate Dean and Associate Research Director in the College of Agriculture at Virginia State University, where he also holds the position of Director of the Agricultural Research Station. A proud alumnus of the university, he earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture from Virginia State University. He received a master’s degree in agricultural and extension education from Virginia Tech. Howell completed his doctorate at Murray State University.
Howell began his tenure at Virginia State University in summer 2018 as Director of Operations and Management in the College of Agriculture. In 2025, he was appointed to his current leadership roles in the College of Agriculture. He previously served as State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in Virginia following a 2022 appointment by the Biden Administration. He has also been recognized as a faculty administrator at the university.
