Rong Fu is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Commerce at Waseda University. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Waseda University in 2018. Her academic appointments at Waseda University include serving as Research Associate in the Faculty of Political Science and Economics from 2017 to 2018, Assistant Professor in the School of Political Science and Economics from 2018 to 2020, Assistant Professor (with tenure) in the School of Commerce from 2020 to 2023, and Associate Professor in the School of Commerce since 2023. She is also a Visiting Scholar at the Columbia Population Research Center, Columbia University.
Fu specializes in health economics. Her research focuses on topics including the effects of radiation anxiety on birth outcomes, the causal effects of education on marriage and fertility, long-term care in Japan, the impact of medical insurance integration on health disparities, moral hazard in long-term care, and the effects of cardiovascular diseases on labor force participation. She has published peer-reviewed papers in journals such as the Journal of Health Economics, Demography, Health Economics, Review of Economics of the Household, and PLOS ONE. Fu is a member of the Japanese Health Economics Association, the American Economic Association, and the Japanese Economic Association.
