University of Reading researchers publish in Nature urging a comprehensive global climate risk update, building on UK CCRA expertise to prevent cascading impacts.

Professor Rowan Sutton is a Professor in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, where he joined in 1997. He serves as Research Dean (Environment), a role he job-shares as Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research (Environment). He is also a Senior Scientist in the UK National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and has held positions including Director of Climate Research and Director of Climate Science for NCAS, as well as Director of the Met Office Hadley Centre.
His research focuses on ocean-atmosphere interaction, climate variability and change, predictability and prediction, particularly in the Atlantic sector, and climate risks. Professor Sutton held a Royal Society University Research Fellowship from 2001 to 2009. He served as Climate System Theme Leader for NERC from 2007 to 2009, was a member of the NERC Science Board from 2016 to 2019, and was Principal Investigator of the North Atlantic Climate System Integrated Study (ACSIS) programme from 2016 to 2022. He is Chair of the Met Office Hadley Science Review Group, a member of the scientific steering committee of the UK Climate Resilience Programme, and co-chair of the World Climate Research Programme Lighthouse Activity on Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change. He has led and contributed to numerous research projects on climate change in the Arctic-North Atlantic region and related impacts.
