About Ruben

Dr. Ruben Prütz is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). His research focuses on the co-benefits, limits, and uncertainties of large-scale carbon dioxide removal, primarily in the context of deep mitigation pathways. He applies interdisciplinary methods including mitigation scenario assessments, spatial analyses, machine learning, and syntheses of literature evidence. Relevant topics include climate overshoot, biodiversity conservation, integrated assessment modelling, land use change, and sustainable development. He is also a Visiting Scientist at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Prütz has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications on carbon dioxide removal. These include the 2026 paper “Biodiversity implications of land-intensive carbon dioxide removal” in Nature Climate Change, of which he is lead author, and the 2024 paper “A taxonomy to map evidence on the co-benefits, challenges, and limits of carbon dioxide removal” in Communications Earth & Environment. Additional works address the carbon dioxide removal range in 1.5 °C compatible and high overshoot pathways and imputation of missing land carbon sequestration data in scenario databases. His Google Scholar profile lists citations exceeding 780.
