About Rui

Rui Yi is the Paul E. Steiner Research Professor of Pathology and Professor of Pathology (Experimental Pathology) and Dermatology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He directs the Laboratory of Stem Cells and Aging. His research program examines mechanisms that govern cell fate specification, stem cell maintenance, aging, cancer, and human skin diseases. The laboratory employs single-cell genomics and computational tools, live animal imaging, and genetically engineered mouse models to investigate gene expression regulation mediated by transcription factors, epigenetic regulators, miRNAs, RNA binding proteins, and metabolic genes at single-cell resolution. Specific research areas include maintenance and aging of skin stem cells, single-cell genomic analyses of gene regulatory networks, imaging of molecular and cellular events in live animals, and modeling human diseases with precise genome editing.

Rui Yi earned his PhD from Duke University. He previously served as an associate professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds appointments in the Center for Genetic Medicine, Center for Human Immunobiology, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Skin Biology and Diseases Resource-Based Center at Northwestern University.
