Ruth Guinsburg earned her medical degree from Escola Paulista de Medicina at Universidade Federal de São Paulo (EPM-Unifesp) in 1982. She completed a Master’s degree in Pediatrics in 1988 and a PhD in Pediatrics in 1993, both from the same institution, followed by Livre-Docência in Pediatrics in 2003. She undertook a Clinical Fellowship in Neonatology at North Shore University Hospital – Cornell Medical College from 1988 to 1990. Since 2007, she has served as Full Professor of Neonatal Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at EPM-Unifesp. She has held the position of Coordinator of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Hospital São Paulo since 2001 and has served multiple terms as Head of the Division of Neonatal Medicine, including 2013–2015, 2015–2018, and beginning a new term in 2024.

Her expertise centers on neonatology, with research interests in neonatal pain, neonatal resuscitation, and neonatal mortality. She has been Co-Chair of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program of the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics since 2009 and a member of the Neonatal Task Force of the International Liaison Committee on Neonatal Resuscitation (ILCOR) since 2005, now serving as an emeritus member. Since 2016, she has been Scientific Co-Chair of the Brazilian Network on Neonatal Research. From 2004 to 2024, she was Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Paulista de Pediatria. Within UNIFESP, she has chaired the Faculty Recruitment Committee of EPM since 2019 and coordinated the Accreditation and Reaccreditation Committee of the Post-Graduate Chamber since 2013.
