About Ryosuke

Ryosuke Kojima is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Medicine at The University of Tokyo. He earned a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Tokyo in 2009 and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Tokyo in 2014. His career at the University of Tokyo includes serving as Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Medicine from 2017 to 2022 before his promotion to Associate Professor in October 2022. Prior to that, he held a JSPS Special Research Fellow DC1 position from 2011 to 2014 and conducted postdoctoral research as an HFSP Long-Term Fellow at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, ETH Zurich, from 2014 to 2017. He has also been a JST FOREST researcher since 2022 and previously served as a researcher in the JST PRESTO program from 2017 to 2021.

Kojima’s research focuses on chemical biology and synthetic biology, with contributions to the development of fluorescence probes, enzyme-responsive imaging agents, and engineered systems for studying extracellular vesicles and tumor imaging. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including articles in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Communications, and Scientific Reports. Notable recognitions include the MEXT Young Scientists’ Prize in 2023, the HFSP Career Development Award in 2019, the Japan Biochemical Society Encouragement Award in 2025, and the Japan Molecular Imaging Society Encouragement Award in 2026. He has also received earlier awards such as Best Presentation and Best Poster Awards at international symposia. Kojima has contributed to editorial roles, including as editor of a volume in Methods in Molecular Biology on mammalian cell engineering, and has delivered invited lectures and seminars on topics in synthetic biology and molecular imaging.
