About Samir

Samir Khuller is the Peter and Adrienne Barris Chair of Computer Science and Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University, where he also serves as Chair of the Department of Computer Science. He joined the faculty in 2019 from the University of Maryland. Khuller earned a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1986, an M.S. from Cornell University in 1989, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1990.

His research interests are in graph algorithms, discrete optimization, and computational geometry. He has published approximately 200 journal and conference papers on these topics. Khuller has held editorial roles including editor for Algorithmica and the International Journal on Foundations of Computer Science, problems editor for ACM Transactions on Algorithms, columnist for SIGACT News, and associate editor for Networks. He has served on numerous program committees, including SODA, STOC, and APPROX, and chaired the 2019 MAPSP Scheduling Workshop. He served as Chair of SIGACT from 2018 to 2021 and on the ESA Steering Committee from 2012 to 2016. Khuller received the CRA Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award in 2020, was named a Fellow of the EATCS in 2021, and an ACM Fellow in 2022.
