Professor Sarah Jackson is a Professorial Research Fellow in the UCL Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group within the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care at University College London. Her research centres on monitoring population trends in smoking, vaping and alcohol use, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of smoking cessation aids and related interventions. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sussex awarded in 2009 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology completed between 2010 and 2014. Jackson joined UCL as a Research Assistant following her master’s degree and has progressed through postdoctoral positions to her current role.
She received the Fred Yates Prize in 2021 from the Society for the Study of Addiction in recognition of her contributions to the field. Jackson has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics including trends in non-cigarette tobacco use and patterns of smoking and nicotine behaviours. She serves as President of SRNT Europe and as a Senior Editor at the journal Addiction. Her work has informed public health discussions on tobacco control and related behaviours through population-level data analysis and policy-relevant findings.
