About Satoshi

Satoshi Endo is an Associate Professor at the United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences of Gifu University. He also holds concurrent positions as Visiting Associate Professor at Gifu Pharmaceutical University, researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study Center for One Medicine Innovative Translational Research (COMIT), and researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study Preemptive Food Future Research Center. His research areas encompass biochemistry, drug discovery science, enzyme chemistry, and computational science, with a focus on oxidoreductases including aldo-keto reductases and carbonyl reductases, autophagy, proteasome function, ferroptosis, structure-activity relationships, protein homeostasis, urological cancers, anticancer drug resistance, and preventive medicine.

Endo earned a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences from Gifu Pharmaceutical University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Gifu University in 2011. His career at Gifu Pharmaceutical University included roles as Research Associate (2006–2010), Assistant Professor (2010–2017), Lecturer (2017–2019), and Associate Professor (2019–2024) in the Laboratory of Biochemistry, Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences. He served as a visiting researcher at Ulm University in Germany from 2015 to 2016. Since April 2024, he has been an independent Associate Professor at Gifu University. Additional appointments include Visiting Researcher at the University of Occupational and Environmental Health since 2016 and Part-time Lecturer at Daido University since 2019. Endo is a licensed pharmacist and holds memberships in numerous professional societies, including the Japanese Biochemical Society, the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, and the International Proteolysis Society. He has held various committee roles, such as secretary and editorial committee member in the Structure-Activity Relationship Division of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, and has received awards including the Encouragement Award from the Japanese Biochemical Society Chubu Branch in 2014, the Academic Encouragement Award from the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan Tokai Branch in 2017, and the SAR Presentation Award in 2019. His contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics such as enzyme inhibitors for cancer treatment and the physiological roles of aldo-keto reductases.
