Sérgio Robles Reis de Queiroz is Professor Titular in the Department of Science and Technology Policy at the Institute of Geosciences of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Born in 1956, he holds a degree in civil engineering from the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo (1978), a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas of the University of São Paulo (1983), and master’s (1987) and doctoral (1993) degrees in economics from the Institute of Economics at UNICAMP. He completed postgraduate studies at the Institut Européen des Hautes Études Internationales in Nice, France (1980), and served as a visiting researcher at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex in England (2000). In addition to his academic appointments, Queiroz previously held positions as Coordinator of Science and Technology and Deputy Secretary at the Secretaria de Ciência, Tecnologia e Desenvolvimento Econômico of the State of São Paulo, as well as Deputy Coordinator of Research for Innovation at FAPESP. His research focuses on processes of technological learning, the globalization of technology, foreign direct investment in research and development, university-industry partnerships, knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship, and innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
Throughout his career at UNICAMP, Queiroz has contributed to the field of science and technology policy within the Geosciences faculty through teaching, research coordination, and policy advisory roles. His work emphasizes the economic dimensions of technical change, technological capability building, and the internationalization of technology, supporting broader understanding of innovation systems and competitiveness. Queiroz maintains an active presence in academic and policy discussions on these topics at the university and beyond.
