Dr Shahida Din is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and holds an honorary position as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. She serves as a National Research Scotland Clinician and leads clinical trials along with a programme of work focused on improving the detection of colonic epithelial dysplasia and colorectal cancer in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. Dr Din has been appointed to lead the Scottish working group on the IBD Colonoscopy Surveillance Programme. She is an elected member of the British Society of Gastroenterology IBD Committee and acts as Gastroenterology specialty advisor to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Her research centres on inflammatory bowel disease, with contributions to studies on therapies, nomenclature, colorectal cancer risk reduction, and single-cell analyses in Crohn’s disease. Dr Din participates in collaborative projects such as the Gut Cell Atlas, working alongside colleagues on histopathological and genomic investigations of intestinal conditions. She maintains an active role in advancing clinical practice and research in gastroenterology through these appointments and initiatives at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian.
