About Shanshan

Professor Shanshan (Shandy) Li is a Professor (Research) in Planetary Health at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, where she joined in March 2017. She serves as Deputy Head of the Climate, Air Quality Research (CARE) Unit and Group Leader of Children’s Environmental Health Research. She holds a PhD in Public Health awarded in 2014 from the University of Queensland, a Master of Medical Sciences awarded in 2010 from Peking University, and a Medical Degree awarded in 2006 from Capital Medical University in China. Following her PhD, she completed a two-year postdoctoral training supported by an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence at the University of Sydney.

Professor Li is an epidemiologist with expertise in atmospheric environmental health and child health issues. She is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership (Level 2) Fellow and recipient of an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship. Her research has been published in leading international journals including Nature, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and BMJ. She has secured competitive grants as chief investigator from local, national and international funding bodies. Professor Li is Academic Editor of PLoS Climate, Associate Editor of BMC Public Health, Topics Editor of Atmosphere, and an Editorial Board Member of Environmental Research and Annals of Cancer Epidemiology. She contributes to multiple scientific committees and peer reviews for prestigious journals and funding schemes. Her collaborative work on human health in the context of global environmental change informs policy and healthcare guidelines on air pollution and extreme weather impacts.
