Rate My Professor Sherif Elbarrad

Dr. Sherif Elbarrad is Dean of the Faculty of Management and Professor at Concordia University of Edmonton. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from a joint program between Ain-Shams University in Egypt and the University of Cologne in Germany (1997), a Master of Science in Accounting from Ain-Shams University (1993), and a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting from Ain-Shams University (1985). He also completed the Stanford LEAD Program at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, in 2022. Dr. Elbarrad has extensive professional experience in financial and management accounting and is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA) in Alberta and an Associate Member of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Elbarrad served as Interim Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Success and as Associate Dean of the School of Business at MacEwan University, where he was also Professor and Chair of Accounting & Finance. He has held academic positions including Chairman of Accounting & Auditing at the University of Business & Technology in Saudi Arabia and Chair of Accounting & Finance at Misr International University in Egypt, in addition to roles at Ain-Shams University. His research interests include management accounting, scholarship of teaching and learning in accounting education, information technology applications in accounting, Islamic accounting and finance, the triple bottom line, and stock price prediction. He has authored textbooks such as Financial Accounting, 2nd Canadian Edition (Pearson, 2015) and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, including “Chartered Professional Accountant’s Competencies: The Synergy Between Accounting Education and Employers’ Needs—Evidence from Alberta” (2023). In 2021, he received the L.S. Rosen Outstanding Educator Award from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association.
