About Shinichiro

Shinichiro Sawa is a professor in the Graduate School of Science and Technology at Kumamoto University, where he has served since 2010. He earned his PhD from the Department of Botany at Kyoto University in 1999. Prior to his current position, Sawa held appointments as assistant professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University from 1999 to 2002 and at the University of Tokyo from 2002 to 2006, followed by associate professor at the University of Tokyo from 2006 to 2010.

His research focuses on plant molecular biology, with particular emphasis on the molecular mechanisms underlying plant morphogenesis and development. Additional interests include plant-parasitic nematode interactions and the morphological and ecological traits of orchid varieties. Sawa serves as director of the International Research Center for Agricultural and Environmental Biology at Kumamoto University. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics such as peptide signaling in plants, root-knot nematode interactions, and seed size regulation, contributing to a body of work with over 11,000 citations. In recent years, he received a JST ASPIRE grant supporting international research collaboration on sustainable agriculture.
