About Shitij

Professor Shitij Kapur is the Vice-Chancellor and President of King’s College London, a role he has held since June 2021. He previously served at the University of Melbourne from 2016 to 2020 as Dean and Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Health) for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, and as interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International). At King’s College London between 2007 and 2016, he held positions including Assistant Principal (Academic Performance), Dean and Head of School for the Institute of Psychiatry, and founding Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN). Earlier in his career, he was Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto from 2001 to 2007, where he also served as Vice-President for Research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and held a Canada Research Chair.

Professor Kapur graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1988. He completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and a Fellowship in Schizophrenia along with a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. He is recognised for research on psychosis and antipsychotic treatment, with over 300 papers and an H-index exceeding 100. While at King’s, he led the NEWMEDS international consortium involving 19 institutions across nine EU countries. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK), Fellow of the Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (Australia), and Fellow of King’s College London, and holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Copenhagen. He serves on multiple College Council committees at King’s College London.
