About Simon

Simon Ducharme is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and a neuropsychiatrist at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. He serves as Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry & Neuropsychiatry at McGill and as Research Director of the Mental Health Mission at the McGill University Health Centre. Dr. Ducharme earned his MD from the Université de Montréal in 2007, completed residency training in Psychiatry at McGill University in 2012, and pursued a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at Harvard University in 2014. He holds board certification in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry from the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties and an MSc from McGill University.

His clinical practice focuses on frontotemporal dementia and neuropsychiatric complications of neurological conditions. Dr. Ducharme leads the FTD & Neuropsychiatry Lab, where his research employs advanced neuroimaging techniques to develop diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for frontotemporal dementia. He is the Montreal site principal investigator of the Genetic Frontotemporal Dementia Initiative, co-leader of the frontotemporal dementia team within the Canadian Consortium for Neurodegeneration in Aging, and co-director of the Neuropsychiatric International Consortium for FTD. He has authored over 90 scientific articles and seven book chapters. Dr. Ducharme has received numerous awards, including the 2013 Career Development Award from the American Neuropsychiatric Association, FRQS clinician-scientist funding, and recognition as a Killam Laureate from 2017 to 2022. He directs the Committee on Research of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and oversees multiple clinical trials on dementia at The Neuro.
