About Siow Ming

Professor Siow Ming Lee is Professor of Medical Oncology at University College London and Consultant Medical Oncologist at University College London Hospitals. He graduated with an MBBS from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 1982. He completed internal medicine training at St Mary’s, St Bartholomew’s and King’s College hospitals, followed by medical oncology fellowship training at Guy’s Hospital in London and Christie Hospital in Manchester. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Manchester in 1994.

Professor Lee is an internationally recognised leader in lung cancer research, having designed and led numerous investigator-initiated clinical trials over nearly three decades that have shaped international treatment standards. His work includes pioneering studies on chemotherapy regimens such as gemcitabine/carboplatin and platinum doublets for non-small cell lung cancer, as well as contributions to trials establishing standards for immunotherapy and targeted therapies. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers in journals including The Lancet, The Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine and Science. Professor Lee has received awards including the American Association for Cancer Research UpJohn Award in 1993, the McElwain Prize in 1994 and the British Thoracic Oncology Group Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. He has contributed to practice-changing research in other cancer types and served on national and international committees, including as chair of the London Lung Cancer Group.
