Dr Siviwe Odwa Malongweni serves as a researcher at the Centre for Global Change at Sol Plaatje University, affiliated with the Department of Physical and Earth Sciences in the School of Natural and Applied Sciences. She holds a PhD in Soil Science and possesses over eight years of experience in environmental and ecological research, encompassing international work in soil science, land rehabilitation, carbon projects, and broader sustainability initiatives. Prior to her current role, Dr Malongweni worked as a Research Assistant at the University of the Free State, where she completed a Master of Science degree. Her research contributions include publications such as the 2022 paper titled Fire, Herbivores, and Vegetation Type Shape Soil Biochemistry in Sodic Patches of a Semi-Arid Savanna Ecosystem, along with 2025 studies examining the effects of invasive species like Neltuma juliflora on soil properties and other topics in range and forage science, environmental sustainability, and related fields. Dr Malongweni advocates for STEM education and supports efforts to advance conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development in South Africa through her work at the Centre for Global Change.
