Sonja Goedeke is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at Auckland University of Technology. She trained as a clinical psychologist and educator in South Africa and has worked in community health, child and adolescent mental health, and women's health. Goedeke holds a BSocSci Hons, MA, and PhD. She serves as Postgraduate Programme Leader for Professional Programmes in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience.
Her research focuses on the psychosocial and ethical implications of infertility and its treatment, including assisted reproductive technologies and donor conception. Goedeke has published papers on topics such as embryo donation experiences, views on recognition and compensation for donation, counselling practice, motivations for and experiences of egg donation, parenting after infertility, choice motherhood, experiences of donor conception, and cross-border reproductive care. She has presented at conferences and to practitioner and consumer groups and supervises research students in these areas. Goedeke is a registered clinical psychologist.
