About Sophie

Dr Sophie Lund Rasmussen is a Research Fellow at the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford and a Research Fellow at Linacre College, University of Oxford. She also holds a position as Research Associate at Aalborg University in Denmark. Her academic background includes a PhD from the University of Southern Denmark, completed as part of the Danish Hedgehog Project between 2016 and 2019, along with MSc and BSc degrees. Since 2011, she has focused her research on the ecology, health, and conservation of European hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus), employing citizen science methods to collect and analyze data from hundreds of specimens on topics including genetics, parasitology, pesticide accumulation, microbiomes, and the impacts of robotic lawn mowers.

Dr Rasmussen has contributed to key publications such as studies on metals and xenobiotics in hedgehogs (2024), pesticides in Danish hedgehog populations (2024), and assessments for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2024).
