About Stan

Stan Dimitrov is a Professor in Management Sciences in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He serves as Director of the Business Data Analytics Lab and Director of Professional Masters Programs. Dimitrov holds a PhD in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan (2010), an MEng in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan (2006), and a BS in Engineering in Computer Science from the University of Michigan (2004). He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PEng).

His research focuses on the interface of operations research and information systems, with emphasis on sustainable operations management, business data analytics, the circular economy, mechanism design, game theory, nonlinear optimization, prediction markets, data envelopment analysis, and measuring the impact of artificial intelligence. Dimitrov addresses industry problems related to circular economy transitions, AI applications, pricing, process improvement, and customer relationship management. He has received research funding from NSERC, SSHRC, Mitacs, and the University of Waterloo. Dimitrov has been recognized with the 2021 Canadian Operational Research Society Eldon Gunn Service Award and the 2018 University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering Distinguished Performance Award. He maintains an active publication record in peer-reviewed journals covering topics in sustainability, operations management, and data analytics. Dimitrov teaches courses including MSCI 445 Telecommunication Systems, MSCI 555 Scheduling, MSCI 609 Quantitative Data Analysis for Management Sciences, MSCI 724 Game Theory and Recent Applications, MSE 432 Production and Service Operations Management, MSE 551 Quality Management and Control, and MSE 752 Behavioural Decision-making.
