About Stephanie L.

Dr Stephanie L King is an Adjunct Research Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Western Australia, with affiliations to the UWA Oceans Institute. She holds a PhD, MRes and BSc, and serves as Professor of Animal Behaviour in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Bristol. Her research centres on animal communication systems and their evolution in mediating complex social behaviours, with extensive work on vocal interactions, signature whistles and cooperation in bottlenose dolphins, particularly through long-term studies in Shark Bay, Western Australia.

Dr King has held research positions including Research Fellow at the Centre for Evolutionary Biology, University of Western Australia, and is a Branco Weiss Fellow. She is a principal investigator on the Shark Bay Dolphin Research project and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics such as dolphin alliances, vocal coordination, cognitive performance in magpies and the impacts of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals. Her work also extends to projects examining the ontogeny of complex communication in songbirds and cetaceans.
