Rate My Professor Stephen Freedman

Dr. Stephen Freedman is a Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, holding appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. He also serves as Associate Dean of Clinical Trials in the Cumming School of Medicine and as a Child Health & Wellness Researcher with the Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Freedman earned his MD and completed residency training at The Hospital for Sick Children. He pursued a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University.

His research centers on improving care for children with acute infectious illnesses in emergency department settings, with particular emphasis on the management of paediatric gastroenteritis, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli infections, and SARS-CoV-2. He has led numerous multicentre clinical trials supported by CIHR, NIH, and PHAC funding, and has published over 290 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Dr. Freedman previously served as Past-Chair of Pediatric Emergency Research Canada and as the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Professor in Child Health and Wellness.
