Stephen McSorley is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in the School of Cancer Sciences and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing at the University of Glasgow. He qualified from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2009 and completed his foundation, core, and higher surgical training in the West of Scotland. He earned his PhD in colorectal cancer surgery from the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 2019 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2021. Prior to his current role, he undertook a Royal College of Surgeons Senior Clinical Fellowship in minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery. His research focuses on the influence of the postoperative systemic inflammatory response on morbidity and long-term survival following surgery for colorectal cancer, as well as the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer in both symptomatic and screened populations.
McSorley holds appointments as an Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. His work contributes to advancing understanding of inflammatory responses in surgical outcomes and improving strategies for colorectal cancer management within the broader field of medicine.
