Professor Sue Grimmond is Professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. Her research focuses on urban climate, land surface modelling, micrometeorology, hydroclimatology, urban meteorology, urban climatology and boundary layer processes. She previously served as Chair of Physical Geography and Professor at King’s College London before joining the University of Reading in 2013, where she also held the Met Office Joint Chair. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society. Grimmond has received the Symons Gold Medal from the Royal Meteorological Society in 2021, becoming the first female recipient, and the European Meteorological Society Silver Medal in 2024. Her research involves measurements and modelling of heat, water and carbon dioxide fluxes in cities worldwide, contributing significantly to the understanding of urban climates.
