About Sumit

Sumit Agarwal is the Low Tuck Kwong Distinguished Professor of Finance at the NUS Business School and a Professor of Economics and Real Estate at the National University of Singapore. He serves as Managing Director of the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute at NUS and President of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research. He joined NUS in 2012. Prior to that, he was Professor of Finance at Georgetown University Business School, senior financial economist in the research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and senior vice president and credit risk management executive in the Small Business Risk Solutions Group at Bank of America.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics, an M.A. in Economics, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His research specializations include household finance, financial institutions, real estate, behavioral economics, and household sustainability, as reflected in his Google Scholar profile with over 23,000 citations. He has received the NUS Outstanding Researcher Award in 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 2017, multiple best paper awards including from the Review of Corporate Finance Studies in 2016 and the Red Rock Finance Conference in 2012, the American Economic Review Excellence in Refereeing Award in 2018, and recognition as Economics and Finance Leader in Singapore by Research.com for 2022-2024. His work appears in numerous peer-reviewed papers on topics such as mortgage markets, consumption responses, inflation expectations, and policy impacts.
