About Syed Akhtar

Syed Akhtar Hussain is a Professor at the Centre of Persian and Central Asian Studies in the School of Language Literature and Culture Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. He holds a PhD and has over two decades of experience in teaching and research. His areas of specialization include Indo-Persian Literature, Indo-Iran relations, modern Persian prose, research methodology in manuscriptology, and translation and interpretation.

Professor Hussain joined the Centre of Persian and Central Asian Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University as Assistant Professor in 2001. He serves on the editorial board of Iran Namag at the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilization, University of Toronto, Canada. His publications include the paper 'Alexander in the Shahname' in the proceedings of the Firdawsi Millennium Indicum seminar published by The KR Cama Oriental Institute in Mumbai, 'Ghalib at Kashi' in the Annual Journal of the Department of Arabic and Persian at the University of Calcutta, 'The Story of Sohrab in an English Translation' in the conference volume of the International Shahname Conference in Sweden, 'Manzumeh-i-Sohrab Wa Rustam Shahkari Dar Adabyat-i-Englisi' in Indo-Iranica, and 'Bu Ali Sharaf: The Qalandar of Panipat' in HU: The Life Way. He is also co-editor of the book Essays on The Arabian Nights published by Primus Books in 2014.
