Sze-Yen Tan is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health at Deakin University, within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition. He is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian and a Registered Nutritionist with more than 15 years of experience in higher education and research institutions. Dr Tan completed his PhD at the University of Wollongong. Prior to joining Deakin University, he served as a Lecturer at the University of South Australia and as a Senior Research Fellow in Singapore.
At Deakin University, Dr Tan is the Deputy Course Director of the Bachelor of Nutrition Science and teaches subjects including diet and disease and lifespan nutrition. His research program focuses on chronic disease prevention and healthy ageing through innovative, evidence-based nutrition strategies, with particular interests in obesity, metabolic diseases, and ageing. He leads work on developing simple, practical, and effective dietary interventions to address global health challenges. Dr Tan maintains an active profile on Google Scholar with research centred on these areas.
