Professor Tabitha Grace Mukeredzi is a professor in the School of Education within the Faculty of Arts and Design at Durban University of Technology. She serves as the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) Chair in Social Justice, Education and Society: Inclusive Education in Rural Schools. Her academic journey spans more than four decades, during which she has focused on teacher education, inclusive education, rural schooling, teacher professional development, and socially responsive pedagogies. Her research interests have been shaped by extensive engagement with teachers and schools in under-resourced and socially unequal rural communities, leading to work on teacher learning, mentoring, inclusion, rurality, context-responsive pedagogy, educational psychology, diversity, and inclusive education.
At Durban University of Technology, Professor Mukeredzi has contributed to postgraduate supervision, supporting the successful graduation of nearly two dozen doctoral students through mentorship, cohort sessions, and academic workshops. She has received recognition including Supervisor of the Year in the Platinum Category and Researcher of the Year for three consecutive years. Her qualifications include STC, B.Ed, B.Ed Hons, MA, and PhD. The Chair’s priorities encompass teacher understandings of diversity and inclusion, inclusive pedagogical practices in rural schools, teacher professional learning and development, equity and social justice in education, and generating contextually situated knowledge to inform policy and practice.
