Professor Tai Lee Siang is the Deputy President and Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), where he also serves as Centre Director of DesignZ, Chief Advisor of SERIC, and Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Chair Professor in the Architecture and Sustainable Design pillar. He previously held the position of Head of Pillar for Architecture and Sustainable Design from 2021 to 2024 and oversaw the Design and Artificial Intelligence degree programme until November 2025. Prof Tai graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies in 1983 and a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) in 1987 from the National University of Singapore. He began his career as an urban designer with the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 1990, joined DP Architects in 1992 becoming a partner in 2000, and later served as Group Managing Director of Ong&Ong Group from 2010 to 2016. From 2018 he was Executive Director of BuildSG at the Building and Construction Authority. His research areas include architecture design, architectural conservation, sustainable design science, and urban planning. He authored the 2016 publication “Cities of Love” with Valerie Ang, a roadmap for sustaining future cities. Prof Tai has held prominent leadership roles including President of the Singapore Institute of Architects (2007–2009), President of the Singapore Green Building Council (2011–2013), President of the Design Business Chamber Singapore (2013–2016), and Chairman of the World Green Building Council (2016–2018), where he initiated the Advancing Net Zero movement. His contributions have been recognised with awards such as the Sword of Honour from the Singapore Armed Forces in 1988, the Architectural Heritage Award for Far East Square in 1999, inclusion in the “20 under 45” exhibition in 2004, the President’s Design Award in 2006, and the International FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Award in 2010.
