Takakazu Kawase serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Immune Regenerative Medicine at the International Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, Fujita Health University. He earned a Doctor of Medical Science degree from Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine in 2007. Kawase has devoted his career to clinical practice in hematology, teaching in the field, and basic research aimed at advancing T cell therapies. His research centers on transplantation immunology, including studies of human leukocyte antigen mismatches in cord blood transplantation and their relation to graft-versus-host disease, as well as T cell profiling and stem cell memory T cells for applications in cancer and viral infections.
Since joining Fujita Health University in 2021, Kawase has contributed to over 112 research works with more than 3,800 citations. Notable recent publications include work on high-risk HLA mismatch combinations responsible for severe acute graft-versus-host disease in cord blood transplantation (2026) and studies on the impact of HLA epitope matching in haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (2025). He continues to focus on developing novel T cell therapies using resources at the center to benefit patients worldwide.
