About Takayuki

Takayuki Shimizu is an Associate Professor in the Division of Natural Sciences, Research Group of Biological Sciences at Nara Women's University. He joined the university in 2023 after serving as Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at The University of Tokyo from 2017 to 2023. He earned his PhD in Science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, following earlier studies at Tokyo Metropolitan University.

Shimizu’s research centers on molecular biology and biological chemistry, with a focus on redox-responsive regulation of physiological functions in photosynthetic organisms. His work examines sulfide-dependent photosynthesis, polysulfide signaling mechanisms, and related transcriptional regulators such as SqrR in photosynthetic bacteria. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including papers in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Plant Physiology. Shimizu has received several awards, including the 2024 Japan Biochemical Society Encouragement Award, the 2024 JAICI Award, and the 2023 Kurita Water and Environment Science Research Excellence Award. He serves on committees such as the Diversity Promotion Committee of the Botanical Society of Japan and previously chaired the Young Researchers’ Association of the Japanese Society of Photosynthesis Research.
