Tatiana Lobo Coelho de Sampaio is a Brazilian biologist and professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She earned her undergraduate degree in biology, master’s degree in biological sciences, and doctorate in sciences from UFRJ. She completed postdoctoral training at the University of Illinois in the United States and at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Since joining the faculty at UFRJ in the mid-1990s, she has served as an associate professor of tissue biology and coordinator of the Laboratory of Extracellular Matrix Biology in the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
Her research focuses on the biochemistry and biophysics of proteins, particularly polylaminin, a polymerized form of laminin that she has studied since 1997 for its potential in neural regeneration and recovery from spinal cord injuries. This work has advanced to clinical trial authorization by Brazil’s health regulatory agency. Sampaio received the Prêmio Todas in the Development and Research category in 2025.
