Professor Tommy Boland is a Professor in the School of Agriculture and Food Science at University College Dublin. He graduated from UCD in 2001 with a first class honours degree in Animal Science and later obtained a PhD in 2005 focused on maternal mineral nutrition and its subsequent impacts on neonatal health and performance. Following a short period involved in the organization of the International Grassland Congress hosted in Dublin in 2005, he joined the lecturing staff at UCD where he specialises in ruminant nutrition and sheep husbandry. His main areas of research include the reduction of enteric methane emissions by ruminants. Boland is Professor of Ruminant Nutrition and Sheep Production. He serves as Co-chair of the Livestock Research Group of the Global Research Alliance and is past president of the Agricultural Science Association.
