Travis Nemkov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He earned his PhD in Structural Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Colorado. His research centers on metabolomics, proteomics, and the metabolic underpinnings of red blood cell biology, including energy metabolism in stored blood, exercise performance, and related physiological processes. Nemkov has contributed to studies on high-throughput metabolomics platforms for developing additive solutions in blood storage and has examined metabolic signatures in contexts such as elite athletic performance and leukemia pathology.
Prior to his current role, Nemkov completed undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder and gained early experience in biotechnology through work at a spin-out company focused on therapeutic peptides. He co-founded Omix Technologies to commercialize omics tools for applications in regenerative medicine, transfusion medicine, biofuels, and pharmaceuticals. He is an author on over 80 publications and holds two patents. Nemkov maintains affiliations with graduate programs in structural biology, biochemistry, and biophysics, as well as the Colorado Cancer Center.
