Troy Merry is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, where he serves in the Discipline of Nutrition and heads the molecular metabolism laboratory. He completed a Bachelor of Physical Education with honours at the University of Otago and earned a PhD in exercise metabolism from the University of Melbourne. His academic career includes appointments at the University of Auckland beginning prior to 2016, progressing to his current role as Associate Professor.
Merry’s research focuses on exercise metabolism, skeletal muscle glucose uptake, reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide signaling, metabolic disease, insulin resistance, and related topics in nutrition and endocrinology. He has received a Rutherford Discovery Fellowship and maintains an active research program with numerous publications, including work on mitochondrial-derived peptides in energy metabolism. He has contributed to editorial roles and has been cited extensively in the academic literature, with thousands of citations across his body of work.
