About Tsuyoshi

Tsuyoshi Osawa is Associate Professor in the Division of Integrative Nutriomics and Oncology at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo. He earned a BSc in Medical Biochemistry from King’s College London in 2001 and a PhD from the Cancer Institute at University College London in 2010. His career at The University of Tokyo began in 2006 as a researcher in the Department of Genetics at the Institute of Medical Science, followed by an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2007. He joined RCAST as Research Associate in 2011, advanced to Project Associate Professor in 2018, and was appointed Associate Professor in 2023. Osawa’s research focuses on cancer metabolism within tumor microenvironments, including adaptations to hypoxia, nutrient starvation, and acidic pH, with an emphasis on the integrative nutriomics approach that connects carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids through metabolic pathways and epigenetic regulation. His laboratory investigates onco-metabolites, mechanisms of cancer cell adaptation to nutrient deficiencies, and multi-omics strategies (genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome) to develop novel therapies targeting metastasis and recurrent cancers. He is affiliated with the Department of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies and the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology in the Graduate School of Engineering.

Osawa contributes to educational programs in the Graduate School of Engineering and leads research aimed at translating nutriomics findings into clinical applications for advanced cancers. His work integrates systems biology and vascular biology perspectives to address tumor aggressiveness and therapeutic resistance.
