Tsuyoshi Sugiura is a Professor in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology and Surgical Sciences at Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry. His research focuses on the development of non-invasive detection methods for oral cancer in the ultra-early stage, biomarker miRNAs related to the development and metastasis of oral cancer, bedside genetic diagnostic methods for oral cancer, isolation and analysis of circulating cancer cells in oral cancer, analysis and clinical application of lymph node metastasis mechanisms of oral cancer, analysis of gene mutations in oral cancer and its application to treatment, analysis of the relationship between oral microbiota and oral cancer or oral mucosal disease, analysis of the relationship between oral microbiota and systemic cancer, development of non-invasive diagnostic and monitoring methods for Sjögren's syndrome, and clinical research on treatment methods for oral cancer.

He holds the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery and serves as full professor leading the division's clinical and basic research efforts using cell biological, molecular biological, genetic, and pathological approaches to promote the diagnosis and treatment of tumors in the maxillofacial and oral cavity regions.
