Dr Uzziah Mutumbi is a researcher in Environmental Science at Rhodes University. He holds an MSc and PhD in Environmental Science from Rhodes University. His research centres on the socio-technical dimensions of energy transitions in the Global South, with emphasis on South Africa, including factors influencing solar photovoltaic adoption and electricity use behaviour among households.

Dr Mutumbi employs mixed-methods approaches combining national surveys, statistical analysis, GIS-based spatial mapping, and qualitative interviews. He has authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as barriers to residential rooftop solar PV systems, behavioural patterns of electricity use among low-income households, co-designed interventions for electricity savings, and the status of household electricity use behaviour research in South Africa. His work contributes to discussions on sustainable energy transitions, energy equity, and just energy transitions. He is currently expanding research on energy governance, behavioural change, and decentralised energy systems.
