About Valeria
Valeria A. Ramdin is a Clinical Professor and Director of Global Health Affairs-Nursing in the School of Nursing at Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences. She earned a PhD in Nursing from Northeastern University in 2016, with a dissertation on socioecological factors associated with vitamin D deficiency and implications for adults with obesity and chronic pain. She also holds an MS in Nursing with specialization as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (Adult) from Northeastern University in 1995, a BSN with honors from Northeastern University in 1992, and a nursing diploma from the Tercentenary School of Nursing in Barbados in 1985. Ramdin is certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN-BC), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), and Fellow in Person-Centered Care (FPCC).
She joined Northeastern University as faculty in 2005 and has held roles including Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs in Nursing and Associate Clinical Professor before her promotion to Clinical Professor in 2025. Her research focuses on healthy aging, person-centered care, vitamin D and socioecological health factors, self-management of chronic disease, and implementation science related to cancer and aging. Ramdin has received multiple honors, including the 2023 Fellow in Person-Centered Care from Planetree International, the 2024 Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award, the 2019 Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Faculty Award from Bouvé College, and induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2025. She has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as mentoring BIPOC nursing faculty, autonomy in assisted living facilities, asthma prevalence in schools, and COVID-19 impacts on African Americans. Ramdin also contributes to editorial and committee work, including with the Association of Black Nursing Faculty, and teaches courses in global health, research methods, and leadership.
