About Vicki

Dr Vicki Moon is a Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences in the School of Science at the University of Waikato. She holds a PhD and contributes to research themes focused on hazards and extreme environments. Her work involves engineering geology, geotechnics, sensitive pyroclastic soils, slope stability, landslides, and the study of tephra deposits and seismites. Dr Moon has collaborated on projects examining earthquake activity on hidden faults in the Waikato region, including the use of CT scans and trench investigations, as well as soil recovery following landslides and the properties of altered tephras.

She serves as co-project leader on initiatives such as those related to tephra seismites and has co-authored publications on topics including sensitive soils in the Bay of Plenty and liquefaction potential in formations like the Hinuera Formation. Dr Moon is affiliated with the University of Waikato’s School of Science and participates in multidisciplinary research involving geomorphology and geomechanics.
