Dr. Vivek Arulnathan is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Food Systems PRISM Lab. He completed his PhD in 2023 through UBC Okanagan's Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program under the supervision of Dr. Nathan Pelletier. His doctoral research focused on the development of the National Environmental Sustainability and Technology Tool (NESTT), a life cycle-based sustainability assessment and management platform designed for Canadian egg farmers.
Arulnathan's research centers on life cycle assessment (LCA) applications in agri-food systems, with particular emphasis on sustainability indicators, farm-level decision support tools, economic aspects of LCA, and strategies for reducing environmental impacts in egg production. He has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including works on farm-level decision support tools (2020), economic indicators for life cycle sustainability assessment (2022), participatory design approaches for sustainability tools (2025), and reviews addressing net-zero emissions in the egg industry (2023). His contributions extend to studies on food security indicators, precision agriculture impacts, and multi-criteria decision analysis for sustainability strategies in Canadian egg production. Arulnathan has collaborated with egg farmers to ensure practical applicability of research outputs and has been involved in projects bridging sustainability science and agricultural practice at UBC Okanagan.
