Vusumzi Neville Funda is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Fort Hare, with his appointment effective from 1 January 2026. He previously served as a Lecturer and holds a Doctor of Philosophy. His academic work is based in the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Business Innovations and Entrepreneurship at the University of Fort Hare. Funda has contributed to research on artificial intelligence applications in South African higher education, including systematic reviews and studies on AI tools for addressing academic challenges, decision support systems, and digital technologies in education. His publications include articles such as “Artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to address academic challenges in South African higher education” (2024) and “A review of the application of artificial intelligence in South African Higher Education” (2024), along with earlier work on information technology impacts and e-learning perceptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funda received the Developing Teacher award at the University of Fort Hare Vice-Chancellor’s Awards in 2025. He has convened forums on artificial intelligence for multilingual education and participated in conferences on information systems and technology in higher education contexts.
