Professor Waldo Krugell is a Professor in Economics at the North-West University’s Potchefstroom Campus in the School of Economic Sciences. He holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Warwick and a Ph.D. in Economics from North-West University on the topic of the geographical economy of South Africa.
His teaching experience includes two years at the University of South Africa and more than twelve years at North-West University, where he has taught courses including Fiscal and Monetary Policy, Development Economics, Economic Analysis and Research Methods. In 2004 and 2007 he received university honours for exemplary teaching. Professor Krugell’s research focuses on development issues, with outputs in two main strands: Geographical Economics and Tourism Economics. He has authored or co-authored numerous conference papers, working papers, journal articles, book chapters and textbook chapters. In 2009 he received the National Research Foundation’s Y2 rating as a young researcher. He has served as programme leader in Economics, as a member of the School of Economics management team and the Faculty council, on the council of the Economic History Society of Southern Africa and the Board of Economic Research Southern Africa. He has supervised master’s students and acted as examiner for master’s and doctoral theses. Professor Krugell has reviewed for journals including the South African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences, the South African Business Review, the South African Journal of Economics, Studies in Economics and Econometrics, Acta Commercii, Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe, Koers, Development Southern Africa and Papers in Regional Science.
