About Walter

Dr. Walter L. Siqueira is Dean and Tenured Full Professor at the College of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan. He holds a DDS, an MBA, and a PhD in biochemistry. Siqueira joined the University of Saskatchewan in 2019 after serving for a decade at Western University, where he held roles including associate professor and assistant director of faculty affairs. In 2022, he was appointed to a five-year term as Dean of the College of Dentistry, having previously served as the college’s Associate Dean Academic. As Dean, he leads academic, research, clinical, financial, and strategic operations and chairs the Canadian Association of Faculties of Dentistry Deans Committee.

Siqueira directs the Salivary Proteomics Research Laboratory. His research program centers on salivary proteomics, oral-systemic health, diagnostics, and the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies, with funding from agencies including CIHR, NSERC, CFI, SHRF, the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, FAPESP, and industry partners. He has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications, accumulated over 10,000 citations, maintains an h-index of 56, and has secured more than $12.5 million in research funding. His contributions include over 70 invited lectures and keynote presentations worldwide. Siqueira has received the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award, the W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education, the IADR Salivary Researcher of the Year Award, the CIHR New Investigator Salary Award, and the Faculty Scholar distinction from Western University. In 2021, he was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Under his leadership, the college has launched Canada’s first DMD/MBA program, the first Bachelor of Science in Dental Therapy, a unique Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene program, and expanded graduate training opportunities, while completing a major $24-million renewal of teaching clinics and simulation facilities.
