About Wei

Wei Gao is an Associate Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computing and Information Systems at Singapore Management University. He holds a PhD and an MPhil from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, awarded in 2010. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand from 2017 to 2019, a Scientist at the Qatar Computing Research Institute from 2011 to 2017, and a Research Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2010 to 2011.

His research interests include natural language processing, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, and social computing, with particular emphasis on misinformation and fact-checking, sentiment and stance analysis, and multimodal NLP. He has published extensively in leading venues such as ACL, EMNLP, SIGIR, WWW, CIKM, IJCAI, and ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology. Gao serves in senior program committee and area chair roles for major conferences including ACL, EMNLP, AAAI, and KDD, and holds editorial positions with journals such as ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing, Transactions of the Association for Computational Linguistics, and Computational Linguistics.
