Wei-Yi (Scott) Liao is Professor of Accounting at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He serves as Vice-Dean, Pre-experience and Specialized Programs and holds the title of University of Toronto Distinguished Professor in Financial Analytics and Banking. Liao joined Rotman as Assistant Professor in 2008. His academic background includes a PhD and a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University, as well as a Master’s degree and B.S. from National Taiwan University.
Liao’s research interests include agency problems of debt, banking regulations, and social issues in the mortgage and debt markets. He has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Management Science. Liao teaches courses focused on financial accounting, data analytics, and financial fraud. He is an editor at Contemporary Accounting Research.
