About Wendy

Professor Wendy Larner is President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University, a position she has held since September 2023. She previously served as Provost at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington from 2015 to 2023. Prior to that, she was Dean of Social Sciences and Law and Professor of Human Geography at the University of Bristol from 2005 to 2015, and Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland from 1997 to 2004. She has also held visiting positions including as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Professor Larner holds a BSocSci from the University of Waikato, an MA from the University of Canterbury, and a PhD from Carleton University. Her research focuses on globalisation, governance and gender. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, the Learned Society of Wales, the Royal Society Te Apārangi, the New Zealand Geographical Society and the Royal Geographical Society, and a Principal Fellow of Advance HE. In 2018 she received the Victoria Medal from the Royal Geographical Society and the New Zealand Women of Influence Award for Innovation and Science. She served as President of the Royal Society Te Apārangi from 2018 to 2021. She is the first female Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University.
