Professor Will Swan is a member of the School of Science, Engineering & Environment at the University of Salford. He serves as Director of Energy House Laboratories and Director of Sustainability. He holds a PhD awarded between 1996 and 2002, a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice completed between 2016 and 2018, and a degree in Land Economy obtained between 1990 and 1994. Professor Swan has led energy and buildings research at the university for more than ten years. The Energy House Laboratories include the award-winning Salford Energy House, a whole Victorian house in a climate-controlled chamber, the Smart Meters Smart Homes Lab, and the £16m Energy House 2.0 research facility.
He has held national and regional policy roles related to energy and buildings, including an appointment to the national Energy Efficiency Taskforce. Professor Swan teaches on the MSc Sustainable Buildings programme and supervises research in areas including retrofit, net zero homes, energy efficiency, and housing. His research focuses on retrofit, building performance, net zero, and energy efficiency. He is widely published in the fields of retrofit and building performance.
